Shane Levi Cole Roberts, a 46-year-old from Billings, Montana, received an 85-year prison sentence for the deliberate homicide of his 52-year-old girlfriend, Genna Rae LaCombe, in August 2024.
Incident Overview
Neighbors reported a foul odor from the apartment on Sioux Lane on August 24, 2024, leading police to discover LaCombe’s decomposing body wrapped in blankets, towels, and a shower curtain on the front porch. Officers found Roberts hiding in a closet inside with a dog and arrested him immediately. Photos on his phone, dated August 15, showed her bloodied body in a bathtub, and investigators recovered bloodied knives, a hatchet, and a hammer at the scene.
Cause of Death
An autopsy revealed LaCombe died from multiple stab and blunt force wounds, including a neck cut that nearly decapitated her. While in Yellowstone County Jail, Roberts called his mother and confessed, stating LaCombe had “pushed him too far.” The couple had lived together for about two years prior.
Sentencing Details
Roberts pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide; prosecutors and defense recommended 70 years, but Judge Colette Davies added 15 years, calling the act an “abomination” despite his claims of love. A forensic psychologist noted his depression and substance abuse but confirmed he understood his actions. LaCombe, a mother of two, enjoyed arts, cooking, and 80s music.
