David Grullon Jr., 42, faces charges including second-degree manslaughter and illegal firearm possession after allegedly firing a shot through the wall of his Danbury, Connecticut townhome, killing his neighbor Victor Quispe on January 7, 2026.

Incident Details

Quispe, 37, was eating dinner on his couch when a bullet from Grullon’s adjoining unit struck him in the torso. Police found matching bullet holes in both walls, food on a table, and a Winchester 9mm Luger in Grullon’s home. Grullon called Quispe twice with no answer, told Quispe’s arriving fiancée it was an “accident,” then fled, leaving his young children behind.

Arrest and Charges

Grullon turned himself in on January 15 after eight days on the run, providing a statement to police. He was held on $1 million bond, facing additional counts of risk of injury to a child due to the children present. Prosecutors noted he was a convicted felon prohibited from possessing guns and was already out on bond for assault and witness intimidation.

Defense Claims

Attorney Gene Zingaro described the shooting as a tragic accident, with Grullon “handling the firearm and shocked that it went off.” The men were friends, and Grullon panicked due to his prior legal issues. A plea hearing is set for February 2.

Victim Background

Quispe worked as a barber, supported his family, and awaited his first child with fiancée Marilyn Mejia. Memorials appeared at his home and barbershop, with Mejia expressing grief over losing her partner.
