Deputies found the boyfriend with bloodstained pants and a hole near his knee, confirming the injury; Welch claimed it was an accident and admitted discarding the .22-caliber gun along the road. A search revealed blood spatter, a bullet casing, and methamphetamine in the house.
Arrest and Charges
Welch faced charges of aggravated battery, destruction or concealment of evidence, possession of a controlled substance, and drug paraphernalia after surrendering to deputies. The 911 call came from the boyfriend’s relative days after the incident.
