More than a year after the heartbreaking discovery of a newborn baby’s body in a Fort Worth dumpster, police say the child’s mother has been arrested and charged in connection with the death.
Discovery of the Infant
In July 2024, Fort Worth police found the body of a newborn inside a suitcase discarded in a dumpster, according to reports from WFAA, NBCDFW, and CBS Texas. Investigators later confirmed the child’s mother as Courtney Minor.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Authorities allege that Minor was caught on surveillance video pushing a suitcase and leaving it near the dumpster. Police say she later confessed that the baby was still alive when she put the suitcase inside.
Minor was arrested and booked into jail, where she is being held on $500,000 bond.
Charges Filed
According to jail records, Minor faces:
Capital murder of a child under the age of 10
Abuse of a corpse without legal authority
If convicted of capital murder, she could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty under Texas law.
Legal Status
At this time, it remains unclear whether Minor has entered a plea or if she has obtained an attorney to represent her in court. The case is still under investigation, and additional details may emerge in the coming weeks.
