The Rock Hill mall shooting was done in self-defense; however, the Chester man who was hurt was charged instead

Rock Hill, South Carolina The Rock Hill mall is closed on Friday, and a Chester man is facing charges following a self-defense gunshot earlier in the day, according to police.

According to Rock Hill Police, the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at the Galleria Mall, located off Dave Lyle Boulevard. According to officers, the gunman acted in self-defense after being “accosted by the other party both verbally and physically.”

Martell Minter, 26, of Chester, was shot in the shoulder and sent to the hospital in severe condition. He has been charged with third-degree assault and battery, and a court date will be set after he is released from medical care.

Police said the shooter used his gun legitimately for self-defense and will not face any prosecution.

Mall authorities said it will reopen Saturday morning.

During the investigation, there was an increase in police presence.
