Aiken, South Carolina – Volunteers from the American Red Cross are supporting four families whose houses in the Market Street Station Apartments on Calderwood Drive in Aiken were damaged by fire on Sunday afternoon.
They are assisting seven people by giving financial support for basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter, as well as connections to appropriate services.
A person died after being ejected from an automobile following a crash in North Augusta.
North Augusta Public Safety responded to a fatal single-vehicle incident on Saturday night.
“As our teams work with the families affected, our hearts go out to them, and we want to provide any assistance we can,” said Susan Everitt, CEO of the Red Cross of South Carolina. “This catastrophic catastrophe serves as a reminder that fires can occur anywhere and at any time, and we must constantly be prepared for these unfortunate but common tragedies. We encourage families to practice their home fire safety plan and test their smoke detectors.
In addition to meeting immediate necessities, Red Cross volunteers offer mental and spiritual support to anyone in need.
The Red Cross will continue to communicate with its partners to see if any additional support is required.
