Charlotte, North Carolina — The woman accused with her daughter’s death after leaving her in a hot car while working her shift at Amazon pleaded guilty on Thursday.

Ashlee Stallings pleaded guilty in Mecklenburg County Superior Court to misdemeanor child abuse, which was amended from negligent child abuse resulting in serious damage. She was sentenced to 270 days in prison.

A Charlotte man was found not guilty of murder in the Matthews homicide case.
A judge dropped her case of involuntary manslaughter.

In June 2024, Stallings reportedly told police that she went to work at an Amazon Distribution Center in west Charlotte and left her toddler in the car with the air conditioner on. The two maintained in touch via SMS. The temperature at Charlotte Douglas International was 98 degrees that day.

Records reveal that after not hearing from the youngster for approximately an hour, Stallings went outside to discover the girl unresponsive and the car’s air conditioning turned off. The mother attempted to drive to the hospital, but eventually pulled over and called for aid.

Her daughter was rushed to the hospital and died a few hours later.

After being arrested on June 27, Stallings spent nearly two months in Mecklenburg County jail before securing a reduced $25,000 bond.
