Selena Doxzon, a 28-year-old mother from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has been charged in connection with the drowning death of her 13-month-old son, Asher Doxzon. The tragic incident occurred when the mother allegedly left her child unattended in a bathtub filled with water. Doxzon has reportedly reached a deal with prosecutors and will be scheduling a plea and sentencing hearing for September 2025.

The Incident

On the morning of the tragedy, Doxzon’s two younger children woke up between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. She fed them before running a bath, where she placed them in the water. She described the water level being just above her son’s belly when he was seated. After washing the children, Doxzon decided to let them play in the bath while she went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

While making pancakes and sausage, Doxzon left the children unattended for about four minutes. During that time, her 3-year-old son entered the kitchen soaking wet, prompting Doxzon to rush back to the bathroom. It was at that moment that she found her 13-month-old son face up in the water, unresponsive and with blue-tinged lips. Doxzon attempted CPR and called for help, but her son was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.

The Investigation and Charges

When authorities arrived, Doxzon was on the phone with 911, visibly upset but unable to communicate effectively. Paramedics performed CPR and rushed the child to the hospital, but the efforts were unsuccessful. The autopsy report confirmed that the child died from asphyxiation due to drowning.

Doxzon admitted to police that she should have used less water in the bathtub for her child’s safety and acknowledged that she could not see the bathroom from the kitchen while she was cooking. In an interview following her arrest, Doxzon said she typically bathed her children separately and had only recently started bathing her younger child in the tub rather than in the sink.

Court Proceedings and Plea Deal

Doxzon was initially charged with one count of neglect of a child resulting in death. She appeared in court on Wednesday with her attorney for a scheduling conference, where they formally requested the scheduling of a plea and sentencing hearing. The hearing is set to take place on September 2, 2025, before Judge David L. Borowski.

Doxzon was arrested and later released after posting a $10,000 bond. Her criminal case has raised serious concerns about child safety, with prosecutors calling the death a “senseless and tragic” incident.

The death of 13-month-old Asher Doxzon is a heartbreaking tragedy, and Selena Doxzon’s upcoming court proceedings will address her role in the incident. As her case continues, it serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of leaving young children unsupervised in potentially hazardous situations.
