A heartbreaking incident in Texas has left a family shattered after a car crashed into their home in the middle of the night, killing a mother and her young son.
Mother and Child Killed in Overnight Crash
Authorities say 18-year-old Gracie Yates has been arrested after allegedly driving into a home in Stephenville, Texas, just after 3:20 a.m.
The crash killed Barbara Rocha, 49, and her 7-year-old son, Alex Rocha, who were inside a bedroom when the vehicle struck the house.
According to the Stephenville Police Department, both victims died despite efforts to save them.
Crash Happened While Family Slept
Police say the vehicle went straight into the home while the family was asleep. The impact caused severe damage to the house and directly hit the room where the mother and child were.
Family members described the terrifying moments after the crash, with one child recalling hearing screams and prayers as the situation unfolded.
Family Left Devastated
The loss has deeply affected the family. Relatives have spoken about Barbara Rocha as a caring and loving mother who always supported those around her.
The father of the family is now dealing with not only the loss of his wife and son but also the destruction of their home.
Charges Filed Against Teen Driver
Yates has been charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide. Authorities have not officially confirmed whether she was under the influence at the time of the crash.
However, a fundraiser created for the family claims that a drunk driver was responsible, though this has not been confirmed by police.
Community Support and Recovery Efforts
A fundraising campaign has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses and immediate needs. The father is now facing the difficult task of rebuilding his life after this sudden tragedy.
Meanwhile, Yates has been released on bond, and the investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
