TikToker Tynesha McCarty-Wroten, known as Tea Tyme, was arrested on December 23, 2025, in Zion, Illinois, for allegedly striking and killing pedestrian Darren Lucas while livestreaming on TikTok. The incident occurred on November 3, 2025, at the intersection of 33rd Street and Sheridan Road. She faces felony charges of reckless homicide and aggravated use of an electronic communication device resulting in death.

Incident Details

Darren Lucas, 59, from Beach Park, had finished his shift at a grocery store and was walking home when McCarty-Wroten’s vehicle hit him around 5:46 p.m. Lucas suffered blunt force injuries and died at Vista Medical Center. An 8-year-old child was in her car; both she and the driver initially declined medical treatment but cooperated at the scene.

Investigation Process

Public tips led police to a TikTok video showing McCarty-Wroten livestreaming as a loud impact occurred, with her reacting verbally. Forensic analysis of her surrendered phone confirmed the video matched the crash time. Surveillance footage indicated her vehicle ran a red light at about 35 mph without braking.

Charges and Arrest

The Lake County State’s Attorney issued the warrant on December 23, prompting her immediate arrest as she tried to leave home with packed bags. She remains held without bond per Lake County records. Initially, she claimed a green light and no sight of Lucas but declined phone access until later.
