A popular Irish YouTuber has been found guilty of murdering his pregnant girlfriend, using a fake livestream as an alibi for his crime.
Stephen McCullagh Convicted of Murder
Stephen McCullagh, who had tens of thousands of followers on YouTube, was convicted of murdering his 32-year-old girlfriend, Natalie McNally, in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, on December 18, 2022.
According to reports from The Guardian and BBC, McCullagh set up a false livestream as a cover story for his actions.
The Fake Livestream and the Crime
The evening of the murder, McCullagh streamed a six-hour game of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Robot Wars to create an alibi. This pre-recorded footage was presented as live, with McCullagh claiming to have been online during the murder.
However, investigators uncovered the ruse after it was revealed that the stream was pre-recorded. McCullagh had set it up to make it appear as if he were at home, streaming, while he traveled to McNally’s home and killed her.
Details of the Murder
McNally suffered stab wounds to the neck, strangulation, and severe blows to the head, according to The Guardian. She was watching the livestream when the crime occurred.
McCullagh was initially arrested but was later released after he presented the livestream as his alibi. Shockingly, he was even consoled by McNally’s family and allowed private moments with her coffin.
The Conviction and Possible Sentence
After the investigation revealed the truth, McCullagh was convicted of murder. The judge informed him that he faces a life sentence for the crime. It has not been immediately confirmed whether McCullagh has been sentenced yet.
