Spirit could not handle it: According to authorities, a mother left her 1-year-old daughter "alone in a playpen" in an unsecured apartment

Sarah Vicker, 34, of Kentucky, faces charges of child abuse and abandonment after allegedly leaving her 1-year-old daughter alone without food in an empty apartment on Villa Drive in Richmond. This happened on a Wednesday morning.

According to court documents, Vicker fed her daughter around 9 a.m. but left her alone in a playpen without additional food roughly two hours later. She also left a farewell note to her partner and departed without locking the apartment door.

Police found Vicker about two hours later at Revival Tabernacle church, about 1.5 miles away. When questioned, she said, “My flesh and spirit could not take it no longer, so I left.” Authorities expressed concern about the child’s safety due to the unlocked door and the abandonment.

Vicker was booked into Madison County Jail on a $10,000 bond and was scheduled for a court appearance the following Friday.
