A Texas man suspected of fatally shooting his wife reportedly attempted suicide after the alleged murder.
Lavan Bullock, 66, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, Kathleen Bullock, aged 62. The Longview Police Department claimed at the time that officers were summoned to the couple’s house on the afternoon of September 22 to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived, Kathleen Bullock was found dead in a restroom, the victim of a gunshot.
According to court documents obtained by local ABC station KLTV, Lavan Bullock allegedly confessed to the murder via text message, claiming he “lost [his] mind” and shot his wife.
Following Lavan Bullock’s arrest in September, police stated that the suspect was taken to the hospital for “non-life-threatening injuries” before being placed into the Gregg County Jail, where he is presently detained. According to the arrest complaint, Lavan Bullock contacted a buddy after allegedly shooting Kathleen Bullock, informing him that he had attempted suicide by taking 30 sleeping pills.
According to the complaint, Lavan Bullock texted his friend, “[I] lost my mind from years of her physical and emotional abuse and shot her.” When detectives spoke with the friend, he revealed that Kathleen Bullock had requested her husband for a divorce the month before. Neighbors informed police that Lavan Bullock suspected his wife was having an affair.
According to authorities, Lavan Bullock told his friend in texts to call a pastor and keep the couple’s daughter out of their home. He reportedly wrote, “Thank you, my pal! I am really sorry to finish it this way!”
At Lavan Bullock’s September arraignment, a judge ordered him to be jailed on a $1 million bond. He is still in jail in Gregg County Jail.
