William Bushey, 61, has been sentenced to two terms of life without the possibility of parole for the 2024 shooting rampage that left his mother, sister, and nephew severely affected. Bushey was convicted of first-degree murder for killing his sister, Laurie Robinson, 61, and her son, Brett Robinson, 33, and for seriously injuring his 86-year-old mother, June Bushey. The murders took place at the family’s home in Point Loma, California, after a violent outburst over the family moving a Wi-Fi router out of his room.
Details of the Crime and Motive
The shooting occurred after a growing tension in the family, where Bushey, who had lived with his elderly mother without contributing to the household, became upset when the Wi-Fi router was moved from his room. Bushey confronted his family about the change, asking, “Where’s the internet?” and then retrieved a shotgun he had secretly purchased in 2012. He proceeded to fire six rounds at his mother and sister as they fled, ultimately killing them. His mother survived but lost three fingers in the attack. Prosecutors revealed that Bushey’s aggressive behavior had been escalating, and his family had even begun the process of evicting him due to his poor behavior.
Sentencing and Family Impact
At his sentencing, Bushey was ordered to serve life sentences without parole and an additional 82 years in prison. His mother, June Bushey, spoke out during the hearing, expressing her anger and sorrow, saying, “What you have done has been very selfish.” Family members condemned Bushey’s actions, stating they had tried to help him but were met with resentment and violence instead. Despite his defense attorney’s claims of depression and anger from personal struggles, Bushey refused to speak at the sentencing, further enraging his family.
