Somebody was murdered': In a chilling 911 call, a teenager casually admits to killing his grandmother, who was found with knives 'protruding' from her face and neck

An 18-year-old New Jersey teenager is in custody after allegedly murdering his grandmother in a horrific stabbing incident, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Suspect and Charges

Louis Brown, 18, has been charged with:

  • Murder
  • Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
  • Unlawful possession of a weapon

The victim, 69-year-old Darlene Brown, was found fatally stabbed in her home in Jackson Township, a medium-sized municipality located about 20 miles southwest of Asbury Park.

The Incident

The attack occurred on Monday morning at a multi-unit residential building on Justin Way. Officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a homicide around 7 a.m.

Upon arrival, they found Louis Brown standing at the front doorway. The teenager reportedly exited the building with his hands raised and surrendered without incident.

Scene of the Crime

Investigators discovered a particularly bloody scene inside the residence. In an upstairs bedroom, the victim’s body was found with two knives protruding from her body—one in the face and one in the neck. The Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the victim had sustained at least eight stab wounds to the head and neck.

Crime scene investigators noted extensive blood throughout the apartment, including:

  • Red stains on the carpet
  • Blood in the bathroom sink
  • Blood spatter on the interior walls

Items collected from the scene included knives, clothing, bedding, and towels. Additionally, 11 more knives were found in Louis Brown’s bedroom and one extra knife in the victim’s bedroom between the nightstand and the bed.

911 Call and Confession

Louis Brown himself reportedly made the 911 call. Initially, he told dispatchers he was calling “for a murder” before amending it to “somebody was murdered.” He allegedly admitted responsibility during the call, answering “yea” when asked if he had killed his grandmother.

During the call, he also mentioned he had been drinking and stated that the only weapons present were knives.

Warning Signs Before the Crime

Law enforcement noted several warning signs in the days before the killing:

  • School officials reported that Louis Brown had recently made threatening remarks about wanting to kill people, accompanied by a hand gesture as if holding a gun.
  • Neighbors said they heard unusually loud music blasting from the residence around 1 a.m. the night before the incident.
  • Family members observed that the teenager was withdrawn and “did not seem to be himself” in the days leading up to the attack.

Background and Family Dynamics

Louis Brown had reportedly lived with his grandmother for most of his life. He did not appear to have close relationships with other family members. The victim’s daughter confirmed that she had interacted with him recently and noticed unusual behaviour.

Detention Status

Louis Brown is currently being held without bail at the Ocean County Jail while the investigation continues.
