Slapped her on the mouth: Teen's 'bad attitude' over 'cleaning a mess' spurs mom's violent response, according to police

A Florida mother allegedly choked her teenage daughter during a quarrel about what investigators described as “cleaning a mess.”

Jamika Jackson, 36, is charged with child abuse in Miami following an attack that police say occurred the day before Thanksgiving. Jackson and her 16-year-old daughter got into a disagreement over cleaning.

“She got into a verbal dispute with [Jackson] over cleaning a mess,” the criminal complaint reads. “The victim stated as a result of the [Jackson] slapped her on the mouth with an open hand, and then threw her on the floor.”

“Unknown if with an open or closed fist,” the document stated.

Jackson’s daughter later told police that Jackson “used her arms to choke her from behind, making it difficult” for the girl to breathe, according to the complaint.

According to one witness, the victim pleaded with her mother to stop.

“The witness stated that the defendant while in this position [bit] the victim on the arm,” according to the accusation.

According to investigators, the girl had multiple injuries.

“The victim sustained a small laceration to the inside of her mouth, a minor abrasion to her throat, and a puncture wound in the shape of a bite mark on her left arm,” according to the lawsuit.

After being granted Miranda rights, Jackson allegedly “admitted to becoming upset with her daughter because of her bad attitude toward her.” The mother reportedly told authorities that she slapped the girl and threw her to the floor.

“The defendant confessed to putting the victim in a choke hold, and that she heard the victim stating that she was having difficulty breathing,” according to the allegations.

Court records reveal that Jackson has pled not guilty. She has an arraignment hearing planned for January 23.
