A Florida man who brought his girlfriend to a lonely park and then shot her dead after discovering she was pregnant has been found guilty.
A jury convicted Donovan Faison, 23, of first-degree murder, killing an unborn child, and burglary, and he now faces the death penalty.
The allegations come from the killing of 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo, who was shot while sitting in her car at Coastline Park in Sanford on November 11, 2022.
Ten months later, Faison was arrested and charged with the deaths of his young girlfriend and her unborn child.
His arrest came after investigators from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office discovered text exchanges between Fasion and Fiengo in which he voiced his disgust when he learned about the pregnancy.
When Fiengo first informed Faison of her pregnancy by sending a photo of two positive pregnancy tests, he accused her of lying and texted “Abortion!!!,” according to Matt Reed, the public relations officer for the State Attorney’s office in the 18th Judicial Circuit.
At trial, prosecutors claimed that Faison was “angry and felt pressured because he was living with another woman who suspected him of cheating,” according to Bell.
When Fiengo declined to get an abortion, Faison sent a text to a friend, which was also presented at trial.
“On my brother’s grave, I’m gonna crop her out,” Faison stated in the text, according to prosecutors.
Shortly after sending that text, authorities allege that Faison persuaded Fiengo to meet him at Coastline Park, where he shot her in the head and left her and the unborn child to die in her car.
Investigators discovered an ultrasound image of the unborn kid just a few feet from Fiengo’s body.
Prosecutors were later able to locate Faison at the location thanks to a friend who stated that Fiengo had told her she was heading to the park to see him.
In their closing statements, prosecutors emphasized a text message Faison made to a friend previous to Fiengo’s murder.
“He said he was going to do it, and he did. Domenick Leo stated, “The police apprehended the right person.”
Faison began the death penalty phase of his trial on Wednesday, October 29, and it is scheduled to take at least two days.
