A Seneca man was arrested on a weapons charge after a warrant service conducted by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service.
The arrest occurred on Wednesday afternoon at around 2 p.m. at the Britton Drive residence of 36-year-old Dewayne Dean Hendershot.
Arrest Details and Charges
Hendershot was arrested during a warrant service related to his status as a wanted fugitive from Iowa due to a parole violation. After his arrest, a search of his person revealed a 9mm handgun.
The handgun discovery led to an additional charge of Possession of a Handgun by Persons Convicted of Certain Crimes, as Hendershot has a history of violent crime convictions, including Armed Robbery and Burglary.
Parole Violations and Prior Convictions
Hendershot was reportedly on parole in Iowa for the aforementioned crimes. Based on his violent criminal background, the arrest warrant was obtained by a Deputy from the Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit, which led to the new charge in South Carolina.
Bond and Monitoring Conditions
Following the arrest, Hendershot was given a $5,000 surety bond. If he is released from jail, he will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device as a condition of bond.
Additionally, a hold has been placed on Hendershot by the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa, ensuring he will be returned to Iowa to address his parole violation once his legal matters in South Carolina are resolved.
