Scam Alert: Gastonia Police warn citizens about man impersonating sergeant

The Gastonia Police Department is warning people about a scammer who claims to be a sergeant with the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials have cautioned that an unnamed guy has been making fraudulent calls impersonating GSCO Sergeant Joey Poole, possibly under other names as well.

Police say he is phoning residents and requesting cash payments at a “federal kiosk” at 736 East Franklin Blvd.

His victims were directed to park behind a local shop during the deal.

Gastonia Police took to Facebook to remind citizens that law enforcement will never ask for cash payments over the phone, that there is no such thing as a “federal kiosk” for payment, and that if you receive a strange call, hang up and call police directly.
