Police in Monroe, Georgia have made a second arrest in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Teonia Stokes, who was seven months pregnant at the time of her death. The Monroe Police Department said Stokes was shot in the early morning hours of Jan. 25.
Authorities previously arrested Dorreous Brooks as a suspect shortly after the shooting. On Feb. 20, police announced that Curdarious Williams, who was with Stokes when the shooting occurred and was also wounded, had been arrested as a second suspect after being released from the hospital.
Charges Filed Against Both Suspects
Investigators allege that Stokes’ death resulted from the actions of Brooks and Williams. Both men have been charged with felony murder, feticide, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony.
Brooks is also facing additional charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and reckless conduct. It is not yet clear whether either suspect has entered a plea.
Remembering Teonia Stokes
Stokes was two days away from her 23rd birthday and months from graduating from Kennesaw State University, where she had earned recognition on both the Dean’s List and President’s List. She was majoring in elementary education and working as a teacher while preparing to welcome her baby boy.
Family members described her as driven and full of promise. Her aunt previously said Stokes “was full of hope” and eager to build a future for herself and her child.
