Police in Los Angeles responded to a deadly shooting early Sunday morning in the Beverly Grove area that left a woman and a dog dead and another woman in custody, according to witnesses and law enforcement.
What Happened
Just before 8:30 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers were called to a home on La Peer Avenue near Third Street after nearby residents heard gunshots, a police spokesman said.
When officers arrived:
- They found a woman, about 40 years old, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside the residence.
- The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but later died from her injuries, the Los Angeles City Fire Department confirmed.
- A dog was also found shot and killed at the scene.
Arrest and Investigation
A woman in her 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of involvement in the shootings. Police have not publicly identified either the victim or the suspect, and as of the latest updates it was not clear whether formal charges had been filed.
Authorities told local media that the incident appeared to stem from a domestic dispute described as involving a same‑sex relationship, though officials did not provide detailed information on the nature of the relationship.
Police at the Scene
Around 2 p.m. on Sunday, detectives were observed searching a black Lamborghini SUV parked in the driveway of the home where the shooting occurred. Officers were seen:
- Pulling what appeared to be a rifle case from the trunk area.
- Photographing a second case also taken from the vehicle.
Police have not confirmed whether the firearm equipment found in the luxury SUV was linked to the shooting.
Ongoing Investigation
The LAPD is continuing its investigation. Detectives are processing evidence from the home and vehicle, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing forensic material to determine exactly what led to the shooting and whether additional charges will be filed.
