Police say a father threatened to shoot up a Michigan elementary school when his child did not get a snack during snack time.

A Michigan dad is facing many charges for allegedly threatening an elementary school because his child did not receive a snack.

The alleged event occurred on Wednesday, October 22, when David Scott, Jr., 43, picked up his child at Pleasantview Elementary School in Eastpointe, according to a press release from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. Scott apparently became irritated when he discovered his child did not receive a snack during snack time that day.

According to the announcement, Scott threatened violence against the school and informed the teacher that he would return the next day. The school notified authorities, and police investigated Scott’s residence, where “multiple rounds of ammunition were found.”

Scott was charged the next day, Thursday, Oct. 23, with possession of weapons and ammunition by a prohibited person, making an intentional threat to commit an act of violence against a school, school staff, or kids, and disorderly conduct.

He also received a “habitual offender — fourth offense notice,” which might be used as a factor in sentence.

During the dispute, Scott allegedly warned the teacher he would “air the place out” – a slang word for gun violence, according to Eastpointe Police, as reported by WDIV Local 4 and CBS News.

“There is absolutely no excuse for threatening violence against a school or its staff — especially over something as minor as a classroom snack,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, according to the announcement.

“Our office takes all threats to schools seriously, and we will continue to pursue charges to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and our community,” according to him.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, people contacted the Eastpointe Police Department and Eastpointe Community Schools but did not receive an instant response.

Members in the community were astonished and disappointed to learn about the reported occurrence.

“Your child goes here. Didn’t you consider what that could do to your child? Eric Haley, an Eastpointe resident, said this in an interview with Fox 8.

“What problem or what trauma that can cause your child because their friends are here?” asked him.

“I’m like, ‘That’s crazy,'” Detroiter Anike Wells told the site. “I am like, ‘Over a snack?'” I don’t think that was necessary at all.”

Scott’s bond is set at $150,000 (cash or surety, no 10%, and a mental health evaluation), and his next court date is planned for November 5, according to Macomb County public records.
