Mick Carmichael, a 35-year-old Washington man, faces two counts of second-degree murder for allegedly strangling his parents—69-year-old Grace Carmichael and 68-year-old Gregory Carmichael—to death with a belt in their Federal Way home south of Seattle.
Incident Details
The incident occurred sometime between Wednesday and Thursday before his arrest on Thursday evening, January 22, 2026. A welfare check was prompted when Grace failed to show for work; police found no response at the home but noted cars and her purse inside. A family member later arrived, saw Mick walking away, and heard him say his parents were sleeping and not to disturb them. Inside, the family member discovered the bodies; Mick had fled.
Officers spotted him around 5 p.m. in a nearby park with apparent dried blood on his hands and clothes, plus cuts and bruises from a struggle. He denied recent contact with his parents and claimed ignorance of his injuries.
Criminal History
Court records show prior violence against his parents: In 2021, he allegedly slammed his mother’s head into a staircase and strangled his father, calling him “the devil.” He faced charges in 2015 for attacking his father. He also has other run-ins in Washington and Arizona.
He’s held in King County jail; prosecutors may pursue first-degree murder with domestic violence enhancements next week.
