Authorities in Michigan arrested 36-year-old Coralan Kaye-Elizabeth Peters on February 2, 2026, charging her with homicide by involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse in the death of her 19-month-old son, Enzo James Peters. The incident occurred in Monroe, where Enzo was found unresponsive in his crib on December 22, 2025, after being exposed to extreme heat from a thermostat set to 90 degrees and a space heater directed at him.
Incident Details
First responders arrived at Peters’ home on East Sixth Street around 9:48 a.m. following a 911 call and pronounced Enzo dead at the scene. The home was in poor condition, with garbage, rotting food, and dirty diapers noted throughout. Enzo had been put to bed around 9:30 p.m. the previous night; checks at 2 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. preceded the discovery.
Investigation Findings
Investigators tested the same model space heater, finding crib temperatures reaching the mid-90s on high. An autopsy by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office revealed heat-related injuries and dehydration, with no blunt force trauma; final cause and manner of death await lab results. Prosecutors allege Peters exposed the child to an unsafe heat level.
Legal Proceedings
Peters was arraigned on February 4 before Monroe County District Judge Christian J. Horkey, who set bond at $750,000. Her next court appearance for a probable cause conference is scheduled for the afternoon of February 19, 2026. The case remains under investigation.
