The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a homicide in east Charlotte on Monday afternoon.
Police said they responded to a call of an attack with a deadly weapon around 4 p.m. on the 6500 block of Barrington Drive.
At the location, they discovered a body in the woods behind Devonshire Park.
According to CMPD, an initial investigation appears to show that the homicide did not take place at a local primary school.
Channel 9’s Jonathan Lowe talked to Major Jesus Rendon about the event. He said it’s unknown how the victim died.
“All we know is we have witnesses ID’d; we’re going to talk to them and find out what’s going on,” Rendon told reporters. “We have to make sure to reassure them that we’re here to protect them.”
Drew McFall, who lived across the street from the site, told Channel 9 about the incident.
“I’m not surprised that it happened near me; it’s happening near a lot of people,” McFall told CNN. “It’s usually a hushed neighborhood; every once in a while, you’ll hear something off in the distance, like a gunshot or something.”
He stated he has lived in the region for four years and will not be moving because of the homicide.
“That’s just America; it’s pretty common in any major city,” McFall replied. “I don’t want to move anywhere else; it’s a great location.”
