A Maryland man died after being attacked while working for the state’s Department of Transportation, and investigators believe a mother and her teenage daughter are to blame.

Gregory Turnipseed, aged 71, died the day before Thanksgiving. According to Mayor Brandon M. Scott and other city authorities, Turnipseed “suffered significant injuries as a result of a physical assault.”

The alleged attack occurred on October 20, according to Baltimore NBC affiliate WBAL. According to the criminal documents, Turnipseed, a 14-year Department of Transportation veteran, attempted to intercede in a parking space dispute. Turnipseed supposedly noticed an automobile waiting for a black Chevrolet SUV to come out of a parking position and approached the car to inform them that another driver was waiting.

The attack began thereafter, according to the WBAL report.

A teenage girl, aged around 15, reportedly climbed out of the SUV’s passenger seat and began pounding Turnipseed in the head. The driver of the automobile appears to have gotten out and joined in the attack.

“The driver then kicked him in the head multiple times, breaking his glasses and causing abrasions and swelling to his head/face area,” police stated, according to The Baltimore Banner.

The alleged driver has since been identified as 49-year-old Kiannah Bonaparte, who detectives believe is the teenager’s mother.
