The parents of 3-year-old Caden Case, who died following a car crash in Stapylton, Australia, have been charged in connection with his death. Queensland Police Service began investigating Samuel Ian Paterson and Aneshia Case after the child was brought to the Beenleigh Police Station with severe injuries on October 25, 2024. Despite efforts from officers to revive Caden, he was unable to be saved. The crash occurred early in the morning, around 5 a.m., when Aneshia, 22 at the time, was allegedly driving with her partner Paterson and their child.
Details of the Crash and Aftermath
According to police, after the crash, Paterson fled the scene with another child, a 1-year-old, who was unharmed. The pair was found later at a nearby address in Beenleigh, where the child was taken to a local hospital for assessment. Extensive forensic and mechanical investigations, along with analysis of CCTV footage, helped police determine that Aneshia was the driver at the time of the crash. Detective Acting Inspector Kent Ellis highlighted the difficulty of investigating such cases, especially when children are involved.
Charges and Investigation Updates
Aneshia was arrested on February 26, 2026, and charged with manslaughter, domestic violence offenses against a child, trafficking in dangerous drugs, driving without a license, and possessing items used in a crime. Paterson, who has been in custody since October, was also charged with manslaughter and domestic violence offenses. The Queensland Police Service confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, and the child’s extended family continues to receive support from law enforcement.
