Police in Minneapolis are searching for a suspect after a broad daylight shooting left one man dead and six others wounded at a southside intersection on Tuesday afternoon.
The Shooting
According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the shooting took place just before 1:30 p.m. at Clinton Avenue and East 29th Street, near Interstate 35.
The suspect unleashed about 30 rounds using a .223-caliber high-velocity rifle.
Responding officers found one man fatally shot at the scene.
Six others — five men and one woman — were also struck by gunfire.
Three victims are in critical condition, though all are expected to survive. Police believe at least one of the victims was targeted, while others may have been caught in the crossfire.
Witness Accounts
The violence sent shockwaves through the neighborhood. Eustacio Alatorre, a resident nearby, said he and his family rushed to the basement when they heard gunfire.
“We went down to the basement. My wife is scared,” Alatorre told reporters.
Loretta Arradondo, whose son works close to the scene, expressed concern but also gratitude for the police response:
“I think the solution is exactly what MPD is doing — being present, being vigilant, listening to the community.”
Suspect on the Run
Police say the shooter fled in a vehicle immediately after the attack. No arrests have been made, but investigators are pursuing “strong leads.”
Chief O’Hara condemned the violence, saying:
“This level of firepower unleashed in broad daylight is completely sickening and unacceptable.”
Community Safety
Authorities are asking residents to remain alert and report any information related to the case. Increased police patrols are expected in the area as the investigation continues.
