Oconee County, South Carolina. — A accident near the Georgia state line on Tuesday morning resulted in one fatality.
According to a report from WHNS in Greenville, one individual died in a crash near the South Carolina-Georgia border on Tuesday morning.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision occurred on I-85 near mile marker 2 in Oconee County at 6:05 a.m., when a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer rear-ended a 2013 Honda car after the Honda halted for construction traffic. The Honda then collided with a 2019 Chevy pickup, which crashed into a 1998 Chevy pickup.
Following the initial incident, the tractor-trailer and Honda over the cable median barrier and collided with a 2015 Chevy pickup on the southbound side of I-85, according to troopers.
The coroner reported that a guy was stuck inside the Honda. After being extricated, EMS offered life support, but he died at 7:10 a.m. on the spot.
Rafael B. Veloz, 34, was recognized as the victim by the coroner and died as a result of blunt-force chest trauma.
According to SCHP, the driver of the 2019 Chevrolet pickup was injured and sent to Greenville Memorial Hospital. The driver of the 1998 Chevrolet truck was sent to AnMed Hospital with injuries. The driver of the 2015 Chevrolet pickup was transported to Oconee Memorial Hospital with injuries.
Troopers said that the tractor-trailer driver was not wounded.
