Amanda Morgan, 39, of Mobile, Alabama, has been arrested and charged with the murder of her 14‑year‑old son and aggravated child abuse after authorities alleged she neglected her two autistic teenagers until one of them died in October 2025.
How the death was found
Mobile police responded to Morgan’s home on October 8, 2025, and found her 14‑year‑old son dead, with investigators describing signs of neglect in the home. The autopsy listed the cause of death as “accidental strangulation,” noting the boy was found with a blanket wrapped around his neck.
Witnesses at her bond hearing said the home had no air conditioning or running water, was infested with insects and human waste, and that Morgan routinely left the two teenagers home alone for extended periods, including overnight.
Charges, condition of the surviving child, and court order
Morgan was later charged with murder and aggravated child abuse and appeared in court for a bond hearing, where it was also revealed that her 16‑year‑old son had been hospitalized for malnutrition. The judge set her bond at $40,000 for the aggravated abuse count and $400,000 for murder; she remains in custody at Mobile County Metro Jail and is scheduled to be formally arraigned on March 24.
