Alvin Waugh faces a jury trial starting January 21 in Tolland County District Court for the 2021 fatal shooting of Motel 6 owner Zeshan Chaudhry in Vernon, Connecticut. The incident stemmed from a dispute over a $10 pool pass on a hot summer day.
Charges
Waugh, now 35, is charged with murder, risk of injury to a child, and carrying a handgun without a permit. He has been held on $2 million bond since his arrest shortly after the shooting.
Incident Details
The shooting occurred on June 27, 2021, near the motel pool after Chaudhry confronted Waugh, his girlfriend, and another person about paying for pool access. An argument escalated when the girlfriend offered $5 instead of $10, leading Chaudhry to evict them; Waugh then retrieved a homemade gun from their room and fired multiple shots, captured on security video.
Aftermath
Chaudhry, 30, was rushed to a hospital but pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts. Police noted children were nearby, contributing to the child endangerment charge, and Waugh had prior comments about using the weapon for “war.”
