Not being fed properly: A Florida couple allowed their children to become'severely malnourished', with a 7-year-old still in diapers and a 4-year-old suffering from many fractured bones. Police

A North Miami couple has been arrested after authorities discovered their two young children were severely malnourished, neglected, and showing signs of long-term developmental and medical issues. The shocking case has left many stunned, with disturbing details emerging from police reports and child welfare officials.

Parents Charged With Child Neglect

Charmy Milfort, 34, and Gabrielle Milfort, 32, are each facing one count of child neglect without great bodily harm, according to Miami-Dade County court records. The North Miami Police Department arrested the couple on Wednesday, but reports indicate that the investigation dates back to at least June 24.

That’s when the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) took emergency custody of the couple’s 4-year-old and 7-year-old sons, following a visit to Jackson North Medical Center. The children’s alarming physical condition raised serious red flags.

Malnutrition, Injuries, and Developmental Delays

According to arrest reports obtained by The Miami Herald and NBC 6 South Florida (WTVJ), both boys had been living in deeply neglectful conditions:

The 4-year-old weighed only 15 pounds—the average weight of a child less than half his age.

He was also found to have a broken arm and a broken leg.

The child was non-verbal, unable to walk or talk, and had not been potty trained.

His 7-year-old brother was also non-verbal, still wore diapers, and had never been enrolled in school.

Doctors determined that the boys’ condition was the result of prolonged medical neglect and improper nutrition. The children’s main diet reportedly consisted of:

Pediatric vanilla shake

Puréed bananas

Water

Multigrain rice

This limited and repetitive diet left the children malnourished, with the younger boy suffering from constipation due to the lack of fiber and nutrients.

Neglect Despite Financial Stability

Investigators noted that while the parents claimed financial hardship as a reason for not seeking medical care, their lifestyle told a different story.

According to police:

In January 2025, the Milforts leased a furnished apartment.

In February, they financed a vehicle.

Authorities say those funds could have and should have been used to seek medical attention for their children, especially after being referred to a specialist in 2022, which the couple failed to follow up on until this summer.

Children Now Recovering in Protective Care

Since being removed from the Milfort household, the children’s health has reportedly improved under professional care. They are now receiving the medical treatment, therapy, and nutritional support they had long been denied.

Legal Status of the Parents

Gabrielle Milfort has since been released from jail.

Charmy Milfort remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he is also wanted on several unrelated warrants, according to authorities.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges could still be filed depending on the findings of child welfare and legal officials.

This heartbreaking case in North Miami reveals the serious consequences of child neglect and raises important questions about how long the situation went unnoticed. As the two young boys begin the long road to recovery, their parents now face criminal charges and a possible loss of parental rights. Authorities urge anyone who suspects child abuse or neglect to report it immediately to help protect vulnerable children.
