A heartbreaking crash in Georgia has left a young couple grieving the loss of their unborn child, as investigators continue to examine what went wrong.
Crash Leaves Couple Devastated
A Florida couple, Sierra Johnson and Kasen Millwood, say they are seeking justice after a crash involving a school bus led to the death of their unborn baby.
The incident happened on March 20 in Lowndes County, Georgia, when Johnson was more than 23 weeks pregnant.
Bus Driver Allegedly Ran Stop Sign
According to investigators from the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred when a school bus driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign.
The report states that the bus entered the intersection and collided with the couple’s SUV. Officials say video evidence supports the claim that the bus did not stop before entering the roadway.
Severe Injuries and Emergency Surgery
After the crash, Johnson suffered serious injuries, including a broken collarbone and a punctured lung. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors performed an emergency C-section in an attempt to save the baby.
Despite medical efforts, the couple’s baby, named Mason, did not survive.
Investigation Still Ongoing
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is now handling the case. Officials say such investigations can take 60 to 90 days due to the level of detail required.
Authorities are working to determine exactly how the crash happened and whether further action will be taken.
Couple Seeks Answers and Accountability
Johnson and Millwood have shared their emotional experience, describing the pain and trauma they went through during and after the crash. They say they are still waiting for answers and want accountability for what happened.
They also stated that they have not been contacted by the school district involved, which has added to their frustration.
Community Support and Recovery
A fundraiser has been created to support the couple as they recover both physically and emotionally. The loss has deeply affected them, and they now face a long journey of healing.
