Murder suspect arrested 36 years after the 'Lovers Lane' deaths in Houston

A decades-old mystery in Houston has finally seen a major breakthrough, bringing new hope for justice after more than 30 years. The case, long known as the “Lovers’ Lane Murders,” had remained unsolved for decades.

Suspect Charged in 1990 Double Murder Case

Authorities have charged Floyd William Parrott, now 64, in connection with the killings of Cheryl Henry, 22, and Andy Atkinson, 21. The announcement was made by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Parrott, who was 28 at the time of the crime, was recently arrested in Nebraska and is expected to be extradited to Texas to face capital murder charges.

A Case That Haunted Houston for Decades

The murders took place on August 22, 1990, when the young couple went to a secluded area in West Houston known locally as “Lovers’ Lane.” The next day, a security guard discovered their bodies after noticing their car had not moved.

Investigators described the crime as extremely violent. Cheryl Henry had been assaulted and fatally wounded, while Andy Atkinson was found nearby tied to a tree and also killed. The brutality of the case shocked the community and left it unsolved for many years.

Breakthrough Through DNA Evidence

The case was reopened after a tip reached investigators working on cold cases. Authorities were able to match DNA evidence from the original crime scene to Parrott.

The DNA match reportedly came from a sample he had previously provided during another investigation. This breakthrough allowed investigators to connect him to the long-unsolved case.

Years of Investigation Finally Pay Off

Officials said law enforcement agencies, including local police and federal investigators, worked for years following leads and re-examining evidence. Despite many challenges and dead ends, they continued pursuing the case.

Sean Teare, representing the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, said the investigation never stopped, highlighting the determination to seek justice for the victims.

What Happens Next

Floyd William Parrott is currently awaiting extradition to Texas, where he will face formal charges in court. As the case moves forward, more details may emerge during legal proceedings.
