An arrest has been made following the discovery of a missing man’s remains in Cherokee County last month. As previously reported, officers discovered human remains on a property off Robbs School Road in Gaffney.
Last week, the remains were recognized as those of Kevin Scott Brookshire of Chesnee. He had been reported missing nearly four years prior.
The Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old John Lucas Rice was detained Friday in connection with Brookshire’s death and has been charged with murder. According to investigators, Rice confessed to killing Brookshire in December 2021.
Investigators have not revealed a possible motive because the murder is still under investigation.
