Mommy was sleeping': Man killed wife, left her body in kitchen with kids in home for 3 days before torching remains in car, police said.

Salko Husejnovic, a 31-year-old from Bowling Green, Kentucky, faces charges of murder (domestic violence), tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse in the death of his wife, Jasmina Aljic. Authorities allege he killed her around January 16, 2026, left her body on the kitchen floor for three days while living there with their three young children—telling them “mommy was sleeping”—then transported the body in her vehicle to Threlkel Ferry Road and set it ablaze on January 19.

Key Evidence

Investigators found no soot in Aljic’s lungs, confirming she was dead before the fire, which was intentionally set with gasoline purchased by accomplice Shelly Boyd. A home search revealed bloodstained pillows in the washing machine and a bag of clothing matching surveillance footage of Husejnovic and Boyd at the scene; Husejnovic had singed hair from the fire. Boyd, 44—girlfriend of Husejnovic’s brother—admitted witnessing the fatal beating but not intervening, and helped dispose of the body after an initial failed attempt to push the car off a cliff.

Investigation and Statements

Aljic had a Missouri protective order against Husejnovic; she had recently moved from there to Bowling Green post-Christmas. Husejnovic initially denied seeing her since November but later admitted striking her during an argument until she “stopped breathing,” blaming Boyd for not calling 911 or for the cover-up ideas. Boyd faces charges of tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Court Status

At a January 23 preliminary hearing, the case advanced to a grand jury; cause of death remains under investigation. Husejnovic is held on $1 million bond, Boyd on nearly $50,000 bond, both in Warren County Jail.
