The parents and grandmother of a young boy from Lynwood, California, have been charged with his murder and torture. The boy’s father and grandmother did not show up for their initial court appearance. His mother did, but she kept her face hidden from view.
The boy’s parents, Destiny Luckie Harrison and Daniel Alberto Monzon, and paternal grandmother, Ana Carcamo Zarceno, have been charged with one felony count each of murder, torture, and child abuse resulting in death, “with allegations that they caused willful harm resulting in death,” according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Monzon and Zarceno are also charged with accessory after the fact, according to the office.
Authorities discovered the young boy’s body, identified as Isaiah H., “in a cooler filled with ice,” according to the district attorney’s office. The body was discovered at a Lynwood apartment complex on Tuesday, Oct. 28, after a resident asked for a welfare check, according to NBCLA.
Isaiah “was allegedly abused by his mother, father, and paternal grandmother over a long period of time,” the district attorney’s office stated, citing a criminal complaint. According to court papers, the torture began in April 2025.
The kid “succumbed to his injuries” early Friday, Oct. 24, days before his body was discovered in the cooler, according to the announcement.
Isaiah’s parents, Harrison and Monzon, all 25, and grandmother, Zarceno, 45, were arrested on Wednesday, October 29, according to court records obtained by PEOPLE. The charges were filed on Friday, Oct. 31, the same day the three were supposed to appear in Compton, Calif., according to the district attorney’s office.
According to NBCLA, Monzon and Zarceno failed to appear before the judge on Friday. Monzon declined, and Zarceno claimed she was ill, according to the site.
Harrison did appear in court, but her defense counsel covered her face from the press with manila file folders, according to NBCLA, which also included video evidence of the incident.
The district attorney’s office reported that Isaiah is “believed to be” eight years old. According to NBCLA, it has been impossible to identify the boy because both of his parents have been charged with murder. According to the Los Angeles newspaper, authorities were unable to locate any records indicating that the child had attended school.
NBCLA reports that three other children, aged 16, 14, and 9 months, were seized from the same Lynwood apartment complex where Isaiah’s body was discovered. According to authorities, one of the children served as a witness in the case.
The bail for Isaiah’s dad and grandmother is set at $2 million, according to court records obtained by PEOPLE. The district attorney’s office stated that they each face 32 years to life in state prison.
