A 31-year-old woman accused of causing a fatal crash in Indiana after traveling across several states has been arrested in Florida. Adria Wilkerson was taken into custody by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office in Venice and is currently being held in the Sarasota County Jail pending extradition.

Wilkerson is wanted in Grant County, where authorities allege she struck another vehicle head-on, killing 45-year-old Vicki Colley. An arrest warrant issued on Feb. 13 charges Wilkerson with reckless homicide and reckless driving in connection with the October 1, 2025 crash.

Alleged Reckless Driving Before Fatal Impact

According to court documents, police began receiving reports around 4 p.m. of a black BMW driving recklessly near Oak Hill High School in Converse, Indiana. Investigators say Wilkerson drove through a farmer’s fence and into a cow pasture before reentering the roadway. After returning to the road, she allegedly collided head-on with Colley’s Chevrolet, trapping Colley inside her vehicle.

When officers arrived, Wilkerson’s BMW was on fire. She was able to escape with assistance and was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. Colley was removed from her vehicle and transported to a hospital, where she later died. Her death was initially ruled an accident, but as investigators pieced together reports of Wilkerson’s driving behavior in the minutes leading up to the crash, the case shifted toward criminal charges.

Cross-State Journey and Pending Extradition

Authorities say Wilkerson’s trip began in Corinth, New York, where she allegedly abandoned her child before heading west. Family members reportedly told police she had a history of suicidal ideation, though officials have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding her departure.

After months of investigation, law enforcement located Wilkerson in Venice, Florida. She was arrested without incident and will remain in custody until arrangements are made to return her to Indiana, where she will face prosecution on the felony charges.
