A father and daughter from the Memphis area, Victor Gonzalez, 39, and his 19-year-old daughter Serenity Gonzalez, were found shot dead inside a crashed vehicle on River Road in rural Panola County, Mississippi, around 7 a.m. on March 1, 2026. Deputies initially responded to a reported single-vehicle crash and discovered the victims deceased from gunshot wounds. The Panola County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case as a double homicide.

Family Account

Family members, including Jessie Waterman—Victor’s son and Serenity’s brother—told local outlets that the pair had left home on February 28 to buy a PlayStation 5 listed on Facebook Marketplace. Waterman noted tire tracks and mud suggesting they were trying to flee during the transaction, believing it may have been a setup.

Investigation Status

Panola County Sheriff Shane Phelps confirmed the victims were dead upon deputies’ arrival but stated there’s much he can’t disclose yet, promising more details soon. No arrests have been reported, and authorities urge tips to CrimeStoppers of Panola County at 662-209-2011.
