Michael McKee, a 39-year-old vascular surgeon, faces upgraded charges for the alleged murders of his ex-wife Monique Tepe and her husband Spencer in Columbus, Ohio. A Franklin County grand jury indicted him on January 16, 2026, on four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated robbery. Prosecutors allege he used a firearm with a muffler or silencer during the December 30, 2025, killings, which occurred while the couple’s young children slept nearby.
Case Details
The victims were found dead in their Weinland Park home shortly after their fifth wedding anniversary. Neighborhood surveillance video helped identify McKee as the suspect, linking him to a vehicle present before and after the homicides. A weapon found on his property matched the one believed used in the crime.
Arrest and Charges
McKee was arrested on January 10, 2026, near his workplace in Rockford, Illinois, about 450 miles from Columbus, and booked into Winnebago County Jail. He waived his extradition hearing on January 12 and plans to plead not guilty. Franklin County Sheriff’s Office now handles his transport back to Ohio for arraignment.
Background
McKee and Monique met at Ohio State University and married in 2015 before divorcing. He worked at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, which is cooperating with investigators. McKee invoked his Fifth Amendment rights and has not spoken publicly.
