Jose A. Gonzalez, 55, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 72-year-old Rex Allen Lofts. Lofts was found dead in his truck on April 21, 2025, after being lured to a property on the Wind River Reservation known as “The Farm.” Gonzalez is accused of playing a central role in the ambush, which authorities believe was motivated by retaliation for Lofts’ alleged abuse of a woman in 2024.

Details of the Murder and Investigation

According to a detailed affidavit, informants provided consistent accounts of the events surrounding Lofts’ death. Investigators learned that Gonzalez was the one who accompanied Lofts to the location, where five other individuals were waiting to ambush him. DNA evidence found on Lofts’ truck linked Gonzalez to the crime scene. Lofts’ body was later found in his vehicle, and authorities believe the shooting took place around December 2, 2024. The motive, according to an informant, was revenge for Lofts allegedly assaulting E.E.’s aunt.

Charges and Suspects in the Case

Following the shooting, three of the suspects reportedly robbed Lofts before abandoning his body. Gonzalez has been charged with first-degree murder, accessory before the fact of aggravated assault and battery, and aggravated robbery. He is currently being held in the Fremont County Jail. No other suspects have been arrested at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the details surrounding Lofts’ death.
