Man claims self-defense after shooting ex-wife's lover in the head with 'assault weapon,' according to authorities.

Eric Renee Enriquez, 50, was indicted this week on one count of murder for fatally shooting his ex-wife’s boyfriend, 54-year-old George A. Turrubiartez, outside his Hewitt, Texas, home on Saddle Horn Drive on February 5.

Incident Details

Around 9 p.m., police responded to reports of 10 gunshots and found Turrubiartez dead in the driveway from multiple chest, abdomen, and head wounds. Enriquez emerged from the house hands up, claiming self-defense as the victim had threatened him.

Conflicting Accounts

Enriquez said Turrubiartez arrived angry after reading texts, pulling up in a 2021 Chrysler 300; surveillance confirmed this, and he fired after hearing a profanity. The ex-wife tracked her boyfriend there, suggesting confrontation; Enriquez later told police the victim “shouldn’t have been there” and he’d “do it again.”

Held on $750,000 bond in McLennan County Jail, Enriquez used an assault rifle later recovered inside. His attorney plans a defense; the case stems from a domestic dispute with no ongoing public threat.
