Man accused of molesting a youngster at North Charleston summer camp

North Charleston, South Carolina – North Charleston police have arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor at a summer camp this year.

Velan Boopathy, 31, is accused of illegal sexual activity with a juvenile (third degree) and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to investigators, a child’s mother reported the attack to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, October 1.

According to the North Charleston Police Department, the mother told deputies that the assault on her child took place while they were at a summer camp.

Boopathy was initially booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center before being moved by North Charleston officers to the Charleston County Jail on Friday.
