A 29-year-old Texas man has been charged with murder after authorities say he fatally stabbed his older brother during an argument witnessed by several people.
Nestor Eduardo Flores was taken into custody in connection with the death of 43-year-old Jose Gabriel Flores. According to a news release from Eddie Guerra, deputies responded around 8:33 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a stabbing at a residence in the 3500 block of Mile 13 North in Hidalgo County, a rural area roughly 240 miles south of San Antonio.
When first responders arrived, they found Jose Flores suffering from multiple stab wounds. Authorities said he had allegedly been stabbed by his brother. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Alleged Confrontation
Investigators say Nestor Flores fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived. He was later located at his home and arrested Thursday morning. Local reporting indicated he was briefly hospitalized before being discharged. Video from his Friday arraignment showed him wearing a sling on his left arm.
Witnesses told investigators that the two brothers had been involved in a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical altercation. At some point during the confrontation, Nestor Flores allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Jose Flores multiple times in the back.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed what sparked the argument.
Court Proceedings
During a court appearance, Nestor Flores’ defense attorney argued that his client may have acted in self-defense. The defense requested a $10,000 bond, but the judge set bond at $1 million.
As of Sunday evening, a date for his next court appearance had not been announced.
