Make her feel the pain: According to authorities, a man beat and strangled a mother and her kid while threatening to "make her life hard."

Thomas Vance, a 44-year-old man from Sandusky, Ohio, was arrested on December 29, 2025, on charges including two counts each of domestic violence and assault, plus one count each of strangulation and endangering children, stemming from a violent July 17, 2025, incident. The alleged victim reported the attack to police the next day, revealing bruises, a swollen throat, abnormal bleeding, and harm to her 2-year-old child, though she initially hesitated to pursue charges fully.

Incident Overview

On July 17, Vance reportedly became enraged, struck and strangled the woman, and hit the toddler during the assault in Sandusky, about 60 miles west of Cleveland. She fought back by kicking and biting him, then sought ER care but left due to a long wait. Vance allegedly threatened, “I’m going to make her life hard and make her feel the pain he is feeling,” per the police report.

Victim’s Report

The woman walked into the Sandusky Police station on July 18 seeking domestic dispute resources, where officers noted visible bruises but she declined photos, expressing reluctance to jail Vance immediately. Despite failed attempts to contact him, charges proceeded due to injury severity to both victims.

Prior History

Vance had a prior felony domestic violence conviction from Tiffin Municipal Court in March 2005, upgraded from a misdemeanor, which factored into the current felony charges.

Arrest and Status

A warrant led to his Erie County Jail booking on December 29; he was released by early January 2026 with a court hearing scheduled for Friday, January 9 (per reports).
