Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old first-year student at Loyola University Chicago, was tragically shot and killed early on March 19, 2026, near the university’s Lake Shore Campus. The incident occurred around 1:15-1:30 a.m. at a pier on Tobey Prinz Beach in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood.

Incident Details

She was walking with friends when a masked male suspect approached on foot, displayed a firearm, and fired in their direction. Gorman was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, with no other injuries reported.

Police believe she was not the intended target, and the suspect—described as wearing a face covering, possibly all black and a ski mask—remains at large.

University Response

Loyola President Mark C. Reed confirmed her identity in a statement, calling it a “tragic loss” with no ongoing threat to campus. The university issued a safety alert, is coordinating with Chicago Police, and is providing counseling services; a vigil was held Thursday evening.
