Julius Howard, 49, faces first-degree assault charges in Louisville, Kentucky, after allegedly beating a man with a wooden plank while telling him to “leave his country.”

Incident Summary

Just before 2 a.m. on March 17, 2026, Louisville Metro Police responded to a fight report near the 400 block of East Market Street downtown. Officers found the victim on South Jackson Street with critical, life-threatening injuries and provided aid until medics transported him to a hospital.

Suspect and Motive

Witnesses reported Howard yelling at the victim to “leave his country” before kicking and striking him repeatedly with a two-by-four. Police canvassed the area, detained Howard—who had blood on his shoes—and he admitted to “fighting” the victim.

Investigation Status

Due to injury severity, LMPD’s Homicide Unit took over. Howard was booked into Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and scheduled for arraignment on March 18.
