AIKEN, SC. The final defendant of a trio of suspects has been condemned to life in jail for the murder of three Aiken teens in 2022.
The shooting occurred on June 26, 2022, during an altercation on Wadley Drive in Aiken County, and claimed the lives of Willie Garrett IV, 17, and Ivan Perry and Cameron Carroll, both 16 years old.
Carroll and Garrett were cousins, according to one of their family members.
Deputies said they discovered three teenage boys on the ground, bleeding from gunshot wounds.
Garrett and Perry were pronounced dead on the spot, while Carroll died later at a hospital, according to investigators.
Alvin Artis, 22, was convicted guilty of three charges of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment on each count, with the terms running consecutively.
He was also convicted of a firearms offense and unlawful transit of a machine gun, both of which carried a five-year term.
Artis was captured in Oklahoma on November 30, 2022, and brought to South Carolina to stand charges in the killings.
Two other accused, Xabian Bailey and Anotnio Jones, have also been sentenced in connection with the killing.
Bailey, 21, was convicted of three counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison for each. In addition, he was found guilty of weapons possession.
Antonio Jones, 15 at the time of the incident and from Warrenville, was arrested at the end of June 2022 and charged with three counts of voluntary manslaughter and one count of possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
Last year, a hearing concluded that Jones would face adult charges. He was previously detained in a juvenile facility.
