The Department of Justice recently disclosed a list of “politically exposed persons” from millions of Epstein-related files, as required by the Epstein Files Transparency Act. This six-page letter, signed by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, names over 300 prominent figures but emphasizes varying contexts of mention, from direct contacts to mere news clippings.
Key Figures Named
The list includes well-known individuals with prior Epstein links, such as President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, Steve Bannon, Kathy Ruemmler, and Les Wexner. It also covers deceased icons like Princess Diana, Elvis Presley, and Michael Jackson, alongside others appearing only peripherally.
DOJ’s Position
No one besides Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell faces charges from these files, and the DOJ states redactions protect privileges like attorney-client communications, not reputations. They assert full compliance with the law, releasing all relevant records.
Congressional Reactions
Rep. Ro Khanna criticized the DOJ for blurring predators and casual mentions. Rep. Nancy Mace claimed missing names, fueling survivor advocates’ concerns over inconsistent redactions.
Broader Context
Victims and lawmakers accuse the DOJ of shielding elites, after some Congress members reviewed unredacted files and pushed for more disclosures. The files stem from probes identifying over 1,200 victims.
