"I'll be back, you shall see." According to authorities, a man attempted to attack a stranger following a fight over phony Air Jordans before fleeing by getting into a DoorDash driver's vehicle.

Jose Chacon Martinez, a 34-year-old Venezuelan national from Miami’s Wynwood area, faces attempted first-degree murder charges after allegedly trying to stab a stranger over a dispute about counterfeit Air Jordan sneakers on December 17, 2025. The incident escalated from a “trivial” argument near a Five Guys in Midtown Miami, where Martinez questioned the authenticity of a younger man’s shoes, citing wear that he claimed indicated fakes. He turned violent minutes later, returning with a large kitchen knife to attack the victim, who recorded the assault.

Altercation Details

Martinez approached an unfamiliar group around 11:30 a.m., insisting the sneakers were counterfeit despite explanations of normal wear from rain and sweat. Tensions rose when the victim questioned Martinez’s mention of his own immigration history—arriving by plane eight years prior—and told him to leave. Agitated, Martinez threatened to fetch a gun from his scooter before returning with a knife instead, swinging at the victim and knocking his phone away.

Involvement of DoorDash Driver

Martinez entered a red vehicle driven by Gerdenson Rodriguez Ordonez, a 28-year-old Colombian DoorDash driver who claimed no prior knowledge of him but drove there after Martinez said delivery drivers were gossiping about him. Ordonez witnessed the stabbing attempt, allowed Martinez inside, and fled without alerting police, citing fear of trouble; he now faces accessory after the fact charges plus an immigration hold ahead of a January 20 hearing.

Arrest and Detention

Identified via victim video capturing the license plate, Martinez surrendered to Miami Police on Wednesday and appeared in court Thursday, where a judge ordered no-bond detention at Miami-Dade Corrections due to his “violent nature” over a minor issue. Both men remain jailed on immigration holds, with Martinez’s arraignment set for February 9.
